This is where it all began on January 5, 2023. It was also the final LAPLog destination on December 19, 2023.
It started with book club. Our club’s first read wasn’t available at any of my local branches and the nearest branch with a copy on the shelf was Sunland-Tujunga. So I trekked across the valley through the canyons and over the hill and found myself in a totally unfamiliar part of the city.
After procuring the book (Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow), I thought about an idle proclamation I once made that someday I would visit all 73 LAPL locations. It probably wouldn’t have happened but for fate’s gentle nudge, particularly given my propensity for abandoning projects. But with one new library under my belt, I allowed the idea to take shape. I gave myself an arbitrary deadline to visit all LAPL locations within the year. I created my first post (via Instagram stories) but since I didn’t know what I wanted this to be, I only took photos of the exterior on that first visit.
Later when I devised a rubric for each library, I pledged to re-visit the branch to properly document it. I saved my second visit for last as a nice way to bookend this journey, now called LAPLog.
